Only You review

Sometimes your first love deserves a second chance.

He was my first crush, my first kiss, my first everything.
But I’m not a lovesick teenager anymore, and I’d never let that cocky troublemaker break my heart again.
So when he shows up out of the blue asking me to have dinner with him “for old time’s sake,” I say I will. After all, it’s been twelve years, and I’m stronger and smarter than I was back then.
Except…he still does something to me. He’s got those eyes that make me weak, those hands that drive me wild, and a body I can’t resist—especially once I see the tattoos. It doesn’t take long for our trip down memory lane to go from sweet to sizzling.
We’re just as good together as we were back then—better, even—and I’m willing to give the only man I’ve ever loved another chance.
But he’s got to tell me the truth.

* * *

All I wanted was to see her again. Tell her I’m sorry. Make her smile.
Okay, that’s a lie. I wanted to do more than that—a lot more. But I know she’s better off without me, and I promised myself I’d behave.
Except I’ve never been much good at keeping promises…or my hands to myself when I’m around her.
I can make her laugh, I can make her cry, I can make her body surrender to mine in ways that neither of us could have imagined back then. I can—and I do—love her more than she’ll ever know.
But I can’t tell her the real reason why I’m here.
And I can’t stay

Only Him is the second book in the One and Only series, the first book being Only You. It is definitely a series that I liked.

Only Him is the story of Maren and Dallas. They met when they were young and they even dated but one day, Dallas disappeared from Maren’s life. He didn’t tell her goodbye, he just left. Ten years later, Dallas couldn’t forget Maren and the love he had for her so he decided to reconnect with her. For Maren it was a chock to see Dallas at the door of her house especially after all this time. They reconnect that night but Dallas is keeping a secret from Maren that could change everything.

I would like to say that this story broke my heart! I won’t say much but what happened between Maren and Dallas when they were young was so sad but it’s sadder when you learn what’s going on in their adult life. It was a story hard t read because of some theme present in this book but it was also a beautiful second chance romance. This book is a rollercoaster of emotions. You will laugh, cry, you might also want to strangle one of the main character but at the end you are so happy that these two got their HEA.

Maren and Dallas were great characters. I like the chemistry Melanie Harlow created between these two characters. Sometimes I just can’t connect with the main characters and I am happy to say that I have with these two, I wanted for them to be happy.
Okay some times I wanted to slap Maren and told her to wake up. Yes, I also wanted to strangle Dallas for some decisions he took or for what he did to Maren but it’s also the angst that makes this story so beautiful.

So yes, it might not be one of my top favourite book of 2018 but it was definitely a great read and I don’t regret reading this book. I don’t know if we will have more book in this series but I hope so. But it was a beautiful second chance love story!

It’s always a real pleasure to read one of Melanie Harlow’s book. I always like the characters she creates or the story. I am rarely disappointed when I read one of her book.

P.S: Only Him can be read as a standalone but you should grab and read Only You, you won’t regret it ;)
