Review: Jilted by Sawyer Bennett

32870200Title: Jilted (Love Hurts #2)
Author: Sawyer Bennett
Release date: July 11th 2017

Hollywood hath no fury like a woman scorned. In this fun, flirty second-chance romance from New York Times bestselling author Sawyer Bennett, an aspiring starlet reconnects with her first love.

Eden Goodnight went to Los Angeles to make it big, not to be publicly humiliated by her cheating fiancé at a red-carpet premiere. But when Eden returns to her hometown to put the scandal behind her, she can barely find a sympathetic shoulder to cry on. Turns out the locals are worse than the paparazzi, and they all think she’s turned into a spoiled brat. But in a strange twist of fate, the one person who seems to understand what Eden’s going through is Cooper Mayfield . . . the boy she left behind.

Small-town charm is no match for the glitz and glamour of Hollywood. At least that’s what Coop’s been telling himself all these years. As Eden’s old flame—and the landscaper for her family’s historic home—Coop feels some responsibility for getting her out of her funk. But as soon as he sees that million-dollar smile, he’s a goner. Soon they’re making out like teenagers again. But when a life-changing role falls into Eden’s lap, Coop just hopes she doesn’t give up on a love that’s meant to be.

Jilted is the second book of the Love Hurts series. Both book can be read as standalone, you don’t have to read book 1 Sex In The Sticks to read Jilted. You can also read my review for Sex In The Sticks here.

The Characters

Eden: she is a 32 years old actress, living the Hollywood dream. She is famous, has a famous new fiancé, won an oscar, well she seems to live THE life. She started modeling at 18, when someone noticed her and proposed her a shoot. She then left her little hometown of Newberry to live in New York. she is a nice girl, always want to help other even if some people think she is an egoistical princess.

Coop: 32 years old, landscape architect. Lived all his life in Newberry, loves his hometown. He is sexy, loveable, romantic in the way that he remembered everything Eden said. I guess you can say he is almost the perfect guy!

The Story (might countain some little spoilers)

Eden and Coop met when they were in highschool and fell in love. They decided to go to college together to not be separated until one day someone noticed Eden and proposed her a photoshoot. Seeing an opportunity, she accepted the shoot in New York. Luckily for her but unfortunately for their relationship, contracts came again and again and Eden was obliged to quit college. After a few month of a long distance relationship Eden and Coop decided to break up even if they still love each other. Forward 14 years ago, we meet Eden again. She is at the premiere of her newly fiancé Brad Wright. She is happy even if she thinks that being engaged after 6 months in a relationship is fast and even if something inside her tell her she didn’t do the right thing, she is happy. But at the premiere, a photograph will let her know that brad cheated on her with his co-star, leading Eden to leave the premiere and come back to Newberry to get away of all the press. It’s when she arrives to her family home that she will meet again Coop and their story continues at that time.

My thoughts

Like I was saying, Jilted is the second book of the Love Hurts series. I migth say that I liked Jilted much more than Sex In the Sticks. I liked the characters and the story better. The writing style is still very good and when you give me a book about a small town/ennemy to lovers/second chance romance, I am all in. Add to this a famous actress and it’s even better! Oooh and you will find a LOT of sexy sexy moments!

Even if this is a common story, nothing new here, you got transported in Newberry and Eden and Coop’s story. I had a hard time putting my book down because I wanted to know how their relationship will evolved.

In general I didn’t hate a thing in this book, yes I didn’t always agreed with what was happening in it but it was okay.
I think I read too much romance and I see all the cliché there is in every single book and it annoys me. I might do an article about it because we find the same things in every book and sometimes changes are good.

Finally if I had to choose only one thing I LOVED in this book it would be the epilogue! OMG it was so perfect and cute and heartwarming. I loved how this book ended it was perfect!

Anyway, I think Jilted is the perfect summer read. You can read this book at the beach or at the pool, the read is easy and the writing fluid, definitely a go to for the summer.
